The Isle of Man Constabulary is looking to recruit Transferee Constables to join our team. As a Constable with the Isle of Man Constabulary you will serve a population of 85,000 people. The Isle of Man is the safest place in the British Isles to live with recorded crime at its lowest level since 1970 and a high detection rate. As a Crown Dependency of the British Isles the Island creates, and is responsible for, its own legislation. Whilst the UK is a benchmark for the Island laws, the Constabulary is a non Home Office establishment, managed through the Department of Home Affairs within the Island’s Government. This unique position allows the Island to create a favourable tax regime and there is no inheritance tax or stamp duty and income tax is very low: the top rate is 20% compared with 45% in the UK. This equates in real terms to a substantial increase in NET income to officers working within the Constabulary.
With an extensive coastline, stunning natural landscapes and unspoilt beaches, the Isle of Man offers an excellent quality of life and is a great place for families. It has 37 schools, made up of 32 primaries and 5 secondary schools and the University College Isle of Man (UCM), offers professional, exam/degree and recreational courses for young people and adults.
Whilst serious and complex investigations present a great challenge, the Island also hosts numerous sporting events including the world famous TT Races, Manx Grand Prix, the ‘End 2 End’ Mountain Biking Event and the Parish Walk. These events bring about a one team approach to policing in a small community. For people who enjoy history, the Island has a number of national heritage sites, which cover more than 10,000 years of history.
We are proud of the recognition by Investors in People of our approach to our people and the gaining of ‘Champion’ status, which is unique in British policing. Our values and behaviours are embedded in every aspect of Constabulary culture including recruitment and selection. In order to maintain progress and meet whatever challenges come our way, we are looking to recruit investigators who can work on their own initiative to those values and behaviours.
The Island and the Constabulary offers lots of great opportunities with job satisfaction that is both challenging and rewarding. The surrounding culture, history and demographics make the Constabulary one of the best policing locations in the British Isles to both live and work. This sentiment is echoed by a number of previous transferees that have moved to the Island.
It is important before making your application that you research the Isle of Man and our organisation so that you know transferring to the Isle of Man Constabulary is right for you. However if you are looking to work for a challenging values based organisation dealing with a broad spectrum of crime, which also offers a safe place to live, we would love to hear from you.
