Speed restrictions

Cars

Car driven by a person who has a full driving licence and has completed their R plate period - obey the speed limits of the relevant road.

Car driven by a person within their R plate period - obey the speed limits in 20 / 30 / 40 and 50mph zones.  However they are limited to 50mph in all other zones - for example 60 and derestricted.

Provisional licence holder riding a motorcycle with L plates on must obey the speed limits of the relevant road however they are limited to 50mph in all zones above 50mph.

Car plus trailer (laden weight not exceeding 750kg) - 40mph

Car plus trailer (laden weight exceeds 750kg) - 40mph.  Please note that if you passed your test in the year 2000 or later then a separate test is required before you can tow a trailer of this weight.

Campervans

exceeding 3500kg not drawing a trailer - 50mph

exceeding 3500kg and drawing a trailer - 40mph

Minibus & bus

more than 8 seats but not more than 16 seats including the driver -  not drawing a trailer - 50mph.

more than 8 seats but not more than 16 seats including the driver -  drawing a trailer - 40mph.

A bus (constructed or adapted to carry more than 16 passengers in addition to the driver) with or without a trailer - 40mph.

Goods vehicle

including a car-derived van not exceeding 3500kg not drawing a trailer - 60mph.

including a car-derived van not exceeing 3500kg drawing a trailer - 40mph.

exceeding 3500kg but not exceeding 7500kg not drawing a trailer - 50mph.

exceeding 3500kg but not exceeding 7500kg drawing a trailer - 40mph.

exceeding 7500kg with or without a trailer - 40mph.

Articulated vehicles

Articulated vehicles - 40mph.

Agricultural vehicles

not drawing a trailer - 40mph.

drawing a trailer - 30mph.
